INITIAL IDEA

For my music magazine I have decided to produce a magazine that will cater to an audience of teenagers to mid/late twenty year olds of both genders. The magazine will focus on alternative/rock/indie music but may also cover select other genres to some extent. It will be similar in style to the magazine Kerrang! but it will also be unique in its own way. The magazine will not only cover the current music scene but it will also look back at music of the past as I feel this will mean the magazine will appeal to a wider audience.
I have chosen the target audience of late teens to mid/late twenties as I feel that is the period where music is a big part of a lot of people’s lives so they will be more eager to purchase a music magazine. I also can relate to the lower end of the age group so I will be able to include features that I think would interest them.
During my audience research I asked people in the age group that I will be aiming at what they buy the most and the most popular answers were clothes and DVDs so it would be a good idea for these things to be advertise in my magazine. However I feel band merchandise would be more fitting than just any clothes. As it's a music magazine I also feel that it would be a good idea to advertise CDs and also Gigs/concerts. The magazine will include content such as;

  • Interviews
  • Posters
  • Behind the scenes content
  • Reviews
  • New Music content
  • Competitions
  • Feature on past artists/bands
  • Others
