Here is an image that I have taken from my magazine of the artist that I made up 'Sayer' and an image that I have taken from another magazine that is targeted at a similar social group to mine of bass guitar player for the band Paramore, Jeremy Davis. The image on the left is mine and the image on the right is from an official music magazine. An obvious similarity between the two images is the posture of the person in the images. Both of them are leaning back against a wall in a relaxed way. However the person from the actual magazine does look slightly more relaxed than the person in my photo. Both of his hands are resting infront of him whereas the person in my photo only have one hand infront of him. Both of the people have one bent leg and one straight, the person in my photos leg is much more bent than the other person. An eye level angle has been used in taking both of the photographs and they are both long shots as you can see the entire height of both of the people. Another similarity is that they both have serious expressions on their faces and they are both looking into the camera. The outfit that 'Sayer' is wearing looks slightly less casual than the outfit Jeremy is wearing. Jeremy is wearing shoes and Sayer isn't and Jeremys hair looks more made up than Sayers. A difference between the two photos is that the one that I took has a corridor behind it, and even thought I edited it out when I put it in the magazine it's still there. The background behind Jeremy is just a dark background and the floor is very colourful, which contrasts with the dull colour floor in the picture that I produced. I do not feel that my picture follows stereotypes as it is really just a picture of a person in natural surroundings. You could say that the photo of Jeremy does follow certain stereotypes. My magazine has an anti-consumerist stance because of the fact that it doesn't encourage the buying of elaborate expensive goods and it doesn't encourage the purchasing of goods in great amounts. The products advertised in my magazine would be low-key non brand labelled good that aren't really expensive. It doesn't really advertise specific fashion or products. I chose to take photos this way because it fits more with the music genre that my magazine is focused on.
So you are representing male youth as cool, relaxed, informal etc through posture and direct address, and anti-consumerist through what?
